Owatrol Seasonite is a clear treatment designed for new and pressure-treated timber. Applied soon after installation, it helps regulate moisture as your shed naturally seasons, reducing excessive splitting, warping and cupping while providing additional protection against the weather.
Your new Puffin Shed is manufactured using pressure-treated timber to provide long-lasting protection against rot and fungal decay. However, pressure treatment doesn't stop timber being a natural material.
After installation, new timber will gradually lose moisture and adjust to its surroundings. As it seasons, some shrinkage and movement is completely normal. Changes in moisture, sunshine and weather conditions can also contribute to splitting, checking, cupping and warping.
Owatrol Seasonite is designed specifically to protect new timber during this initial seasoning period.
Seasonite penetrates the surface of new timber and helps regulate the movement of moisture as the wood naturally dries.
Rather than sealing moisture inside the timber, it allows the wood to breathe while helping protect it against excessive moisture entering from rain and damp weather.
This more controlled seasoning process can help:

The two treatments perform different jobs.
Pressure treatment protects the timber against rot and fungal decay.
Seasonite helps protect against the physical effects of moisture movement while new timber seasons.
Our pressure-treated timber does not require Seasonite in order to provide its preservative protection. Seasonite is an additional aftercare treatment for customers who want to give their new shed extra protection during the period when the timber is adjusting to its new environment.
Seasonite is intended for new timber and is best applied as soon as practical after your shed has been installed.
Unlike many conventional exterior wood oils and finishes that require timber to dry and weather before application, Seasonite has been developed specifically for the initial seasoning period of new and pressure-treated softwood.
The timber should be clean and dry to the touch before application.
Seasonite is clear and non-decorative.
The timber may temporarily appear darker or wet immediately after application, but Seasonite is designed to preserve the natural appearance of the timber rather than add a coloured decorative finish.
This makes it particularly suitable for customers who like the natural appearance of their pressure-treated Puffin Shed.
Seasonite can be applied to the external timber surfaces of your shed using a brush or roller, following the manufacturer's application instructions.
Pay particular attention to exposed timber, doors and areas subjected to direct sunshine and weather.
Seasonite is a penetrating treatment rather than a conventional paint or decorative coating.
Coverage is approximately 5–7m² per litre, depending on the condition and absorbency of the timber.
A 2.5 litre tin therefore provides approximately 12.5–17.5m² of coverage.

Seasonite is primarily intended to protect new timber during its initial seasoning period.
As your shed matures, its aftercare requirements change. Once the timber has properly seasoned, a suitable exterior timber treatment can be used to provide ongoing protection against moisture and weather exposure.

Seasonite can help reduce excessive movement, splitting, checking and distortion, but it cannot eliminate the natural characteristics of timber.
Timber expands and contracts as its moisture content and surrounding conditions change. Small splits, knots, surface checking and dimensional movement are natural characteristics of real timber and do not necessarily indicate a defect.
Seasonite is recommended as an additional preventative treatment to help your new shed timber season as evenly as possible.
